New in AM2003c: Local Workspace

AutoManager uses a special file system driver (AMFS) to provide access to documents in a vault through standard file system operations. AMFS runs on the AutoManager server machine and is accessible from all (LAN) client machines as a network share. For certain scenarios, accessing documents across the network does not give the desired performance. For those scenarios, we introduced a new feature called ‘Local Workspace’. Local Workspace is a workstation-local cache for documents that are in use by the user of that machine. This local workspace is used for viewing and editing of documents, stored in an AutoManager Vault. Modified documents are automatically synchronized to the AutoManager server to make sure that no document modifications are lost.

An administrator can turn on the local workspace feature per vault using the Administrator tool as an alternative for AMFS to increase performance of the overall system.
