Hyperlinking to items

You can create hyperlinks to repository items in any other application that supports URL addresses. However, because of the design of and its ability to store multiple revisions of the same item, creating a hyperlink is not as simple as with the typical website. Copying the current browser address when an item's property pages are visible is not sufficient to hyperlink to the item. Instead, you need a special URL that refers to the specific revision of the item. You can also create hyperlinks to renditions.

The URLs can be one of several types of hyperlinks: to property pages, to open the items in a viewer window, or to download the items.

To hyperlink to items:

  1. Select the items that you want to link to and then in the Review ribbon, click Hyperlink.

    OR

Right-click the document's row in the results list and on the shortcut menu that appears, click Hyperlink.

A dialog box appears that lists the selected items.

  2. On the menu beneath the item name, click the option for the type of hyperlink that you want to create:

  3. If you want the URLs to always refer to the latest revision of the item:

  4. To copy a URL to another location:
    1. Click the URL of the item that you want to copy. A hyperlink that reflects the options that you have chosen appears at the bottom of the dialog box.
    2. Copy the URL to the Clipboard and paste it into the application where you want to create the hyperlink.

To send hyperlinks for all of the selected items in a single email message using the options that you have chosen:

  5. Click SEND MAIL.
  6. Click CLOSE.
