About using the BlueCielo Federated Connector

The BlueCielo Federated Connector supports Meridian Enterprise vaults and displays search results for content that is not crawled by the SharePoint search server. With federation, search queries are forwarded to a vault where they are processed by the vault’s search engine. The search engine then returns the results to the SharePoint Server.

SharePoint Server includes the following web parts for displaying search results from federated locations:

• Federated Results Web Part. This web part displays the results from a specified federated location. You can specify only one location for a Federated Results Web Part.
• Top Federated Results Web Part. This web part displays the results from the first federated location that returns search results. You can configure multiple locations for the web part, in priority order.

Configuring the BlueCielo Federated Connector and web parts is accomplished by performing the following steps in the order listed:

1. Configuring the BlueCielo Federated Connector
2. Specifying the BlueCielo Web Service server
3. Importing the federated location definition file
4. Adding the Federated Search Web Part
