Understanding TeamWork data

TeamWork stores information about the documents in a vault (metadata) in a database (Hypertrieve). The actual documents in a vault are stored in a secure folder structure that is completely managed by TeamWork. This folder structure is called streams data, and is invisible to users and applications; it can be accessed only by the AutoManager EDM Server service. This service makes the files accessible for users and applications depending on the users’ security privileges and the documents’ workflow and revision status.

The streams data can be located on the TeamWork application server (the default), or on a file server or other storage device accessible by Windows via a URL. TeamWork can be installed on a FAT or an NTFS file system. NTFS is the best choice because it can deal with large disk space and disk fragmentation better.
