Configuring the BlueCielo Application Manager

The BlueCielo Application Manager is a Windows application that is the central administration console for BlueCielo applications such as BlueCielo Publisher. It uses a SQL Server or Oracle database to store the configuration settings of the BlueCielo applications. When you use the BlueCielo Application Manager for the first time, you must create the configuration database.

Note    This task should be performed only once. Thereafter, the BlueCielo Application Manager can be used as described in the other topics in this guide.

To configure the BlueCielo Application Manager:

  1. In BlueCielo Application Manager, select BlueCielo Application Manager 2012 in the configuration tree.
  2. Under Options, click the License Server hyperlink. The Licenses dialog appears.
  1. If the BlueCielo License Server service is running on the computer, select Local computer. If the service is running on another computer, disable Local computer and type the other computer's name in License server.
  2. Click OK to save your changes.
  1. Under Options, click the Configuration Database hyperlink. The Select Configuration Database dialog appears. The Connection string option will be empty if the configuration database has not already been created.
  2. Click Edit. The Create Configuration Database dialog appears.
  3. Select the database type where you want to create the configuration database and click Next. The options page for the selected database type appears.

    Note    If the BlueCielo Application Manager is used to administer BlueCielo applications that are installed on multiple servers, a single shared configuration database may be used for all of the applications.
  4. Select or enter options using the descriptions in the following tables depending on the database type that you selected:
SQL Server connection options
Option Description

Server name

The name of the server where the database resides.

Note     If the database server is running SQL Server Express, SQL Server Small Business, or another edition that creates a default named instance when the software is installed, enter the name of the database server and the SQL Server instance name, for example, <MyServer>\SQLEXPRESS or <MyServer>\MSSMLBIZ.

Windows authentication

Select this option if the Meridian Enterprise server should connect to the configuration database using the account under which the EDM Server service is run. If this option is selected, ensure that the accounts used by the application pool under which IIS runs has db_owner privileges.

SQL Server authentication

Select this option if the Meridian Enterprise server should connect to the configuration database using the account name and password specified by the options below.

Tip    We recommend using this option with a dedicated user account that has db_owner privileges.

User name

The SQL Server account name to use to connect to the configuration database.

Password

The password of the SQL Server account name used to connect to the configuration database.

Database

The name of the SQL Server database to use as the configuration database. Select an existing database or accept the default of BlueCieloConfig.

Primary path

The location to store the configuration database files. Enter an existing path or click the browse button and select a location on the SQL Server computer.
Oracle connection options
Option Description

System ID

The name of the Oracle system to use for the configuration database.

User name

The Oracle account name to use to connect to the configuration database.

Password

The password of the Oracle account name used to connect to the configuration database.
  1. Click the Test Connection hyperlink to verify that you have entered the correct options. The test can take several seconds and will display the results when the test has completed. If the test fails, correct the options that you selected in step 5 and retest.
  2. When the test succeeds, click Next. The Summary page appears.
  3. Click Finish. The options that you selected are used to create a valid connection string in the Connection string option of the Select Configuration Database dialog.
  4. Click Apply. The Select Configuration Database dialog closes and the BlueCielo Publisher 2012 branch appears in the configuration tree.

Note    The BlueCielo Application Manager configuration database on the specified server is created at this time using the specified credentials.

  1. Notify a database administrator that the configuration database must be included in regular backups.
