About item linking
Project Portal supports linking documents and folders to each other inside the same workspace. Each link has a parent folder or document and a (child) subfolder or subdocument. A document can be linked to more than one folder to make the document visible in multiple locations in the workspace.
Linking is useful for:
- Classifying information and creating relational information structures
- Moving items from one folder to another
- Updating in one location an item that is linked to multiple locations. The item does not need to be updated in any other linked location.
Items can be linked when:
- The source folder is not frozen
- The destination folder is not frozen
- You have View document and Edit document access rights to linked documents
- You have Create document access rights in the destination folder
- The items are not linked already
The folders to which a document is linked are listed on the document's property page in the Links section in the Present in folders property.
The other documents to which a document is linked are listed on the document's property page in the Links section in the Parent documents or Subdocuments properties.
