Unlocking files

Unlocking files removes the lock that was set when the file was checked-out. This can be useful if you have checked out a document for editing and then later decide that changing the file is unnecessary. You can unlock the document without checking the document in and uploading the changed file.

To unlock a file from the My recent items view:

  1. In the Checked out list, click Unlock next to the name of the file that you want to unlock. The file lock is released and the file is removed from the Checked out list.

To unlock a file from the document list:

  1. In the document list, on the Actions menu, click Unlock. The lock is removed and the locked icon disappears at the end of the document's name in the document list.

To unlock a file from the parent document's property page:

  1. In the navigation pane, select the parent folder of the document for which you want to unlock a file.
  2. In the Documents view, select the document for which you want to unlock a file. The document's property page appears.
  3. In the Files list, click the button next to the file name that you want to unlock. The File actions menu appears.
  4. Click Unlock. The lock is removed and the locked icon disappears at the end of the document's name in the document list.

For information about checking in a file, which releases the lock and also uploads the file from your computer, see Checking in files.
