Saving search templates

A search template is a saved search that can be modified each time it is run. When you open a search template, search results will not be shown immediately. Instead, you are specified an opportunity to specify different or additional search criteria before executing the search. The advantages of a search template are:

You can reuse the search without having to respecify the search criteria.
Other users can run the same search without having to respecify the search criteria.
Anyone can add or modify search criteria before executing the search.

To save an advanced search as a search template:

Begin by displaying the Advanced tab in the Document Search pane and selecting a library and optional folder to search in, as described in Executing an advanced search.
Click the Template tab. The Template tab appears, similar to the following figure.

If you like, specify property value search criteria as described in Specifying property value search criteria.
If you like, specify document content search criteria as described in Specifying document content search criteria.
In the View column of both the Properties and Content tables, choose an option for each criterion to control its access according to the descriptions in the following table.

Search criterion icon descriptions
Icon	Option	Description
	Required	The user must type a search value for this criterion when the search is executed.
	Editable	The user may optionally type a search value for this criterion when the search is executed.
	Read Only	The user cannot type a search value for this criterion when the search is executed.
	Hidden	The search criterion is hidden from the user when the template is opened.

To see a preview of the search template, click the TemplatePreview button . The Template tab changes appearance, similar to the following figure.

This is how the template will appear to users when they open it:

The Properties and Content toolbars disappear.
The criteria selection button column is replaced by an In column of check boxes from which the user can choose to include or exclude specific criteria.
Read-only criteria are dimmed out.
Hidden criteria disappear.

Click the TemplatePreview button again to continue editing the search template.
When you are satisfied with the search criteria and their access, click File on the menu bar and click Save As. The ProjectForce Find:Save dialog box appears.
Use the ProjectForce Find:Save dialog to save the search template as described in Saving searches. If you saved the search template in the library, it will appear with a search template icon in the selected folder.
