Limiting upload file size

By default, SharePoint Server allows a maximum file size of 50 MB that can be uploaded into any document library. This might be larger than you want users to upload to your LAN or WAN.

To limit upload file size:

  1. In SharePoint Central Administration, click the Application Management tab. The Application Management page appears.
  2. In the SharePoint Web Application Management group, click Web application general settings. The Web Application General Settings page appears.
  3. Type a value in MB in Maximum upload size.
  4. Click OK to save your changes.

Note    If you increase the file size limit, the site might occasionally time out while users are uploading files. To resolve this, increase the default time out property in Internet Information Services Manager.
