Administration improvements

The following improvements have been made to the administration of Meridian Enterprise:

  • The performance of repairing Hypertrieve vaults has been improved by approximately 30%.
  • The Meridian Enterprise suite of products now supports named user licenses in addition to concurrent user licenses. Consult your BlueCielo Partner or BlueCielo account representative to discuss how the new licenses will affect your organization.
  • Meridian Explorer licenses will be substituted automatically by a PowerUser client license (if available) when a user opens the PowerUser client while a Meridian Explorer license is claimed. PowerUser client licenses will be claimed by Meridian Explorer users if no Meridian Explorer user licenses are available.
  • The performance for client-side operations that download documents to the PC can be improved in WAN environments by configuring the new site cache feature. This feature works similar to local workspace but for all users of the same remote site. Documentation of this feature is missing from the BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise Administrator's Guide that was distributed with release 2015. The documentation can be found in the guide online in the BlueCieloTechnical Library.
  • New security privileges Confirm Superseded, Confirm Merge, Link to Master, and DIscard from Project have been added.
  • This release of the Hypertrieve 5 database engine provides approximately 50% better performance over the previous release (600% over the Hypertrieve 3 database engine) due to:
    • Better memory usage

    • Better handling of exclusive locks

    • New algorithms

    Additional improvements include:

    • In certain cases, a server reboot could take a long time due to slow loading of data cached on disk. This has been resolved.

    • An access violation could occur on intensive operations like importing documents and running the Vault Consistency Wizard and has been resolved.

    • A problem with incorrect string lengths could result in database corruption and has been resolved.

    • Interrupted cache loading could lead to an access violation and has been resolved.

    • Error logging has been improved.

  • The licenses for a specific BlueCielo product can now be restricted to the members of a specified local or domain group.
  • BlueCielo License Server activity can now be logged for viewing by the Windows Event Log Viewer.
  • A new EDM Server setting Hide vaults to which a user has no access has been added. If this option is enabled, vaults will be hidden from users that do not have the List Content privilege for the root folder of a vault.
  • The following options on the Preferences page in the Meridian Web Client have been removed and are now controlled only by registry settings on the web server. Existing environments that rely on client settings will continue to work.
    • Enable clipboard Copy, Cut, and Paste commands

    • Enable viewing the vault at a baseline or specific date or time

    • Clear credentials after logging off

  • A new registry value HelpURL has been added that can be set to show a different help system for the Meridian Web Client than for the PowerUser client.
  • The Enable Web Access client components option on the Preferences page in the Meridian Web Client is now set depending on whether the BlueCielo Upload/Download Control component is installed on the PC.
  • The Use BlueCielo AutoControls for improved form display option has been deprecated.

  • The AutoManager EDM Server service closes large vaults more gracefully now during Windows restarts and shutdowns. By default, the service will delay Windows shutdowns by up to 3 minutes to finish closing vaults and prevent vault recoveries during restart.
  • It is now possible to register more than one Meridian Enterprise trial license in Meridian Enterprise Server with the same expiration date.
  • Content indexing with the BlueCielo IFilter could create an excessive number of .tmp files in the Windows %TEMP% folder.
  • A new server registry value SameIISEDMAccount has been added that, when set to 1, causes Web Access to use Windows authentication to connect to the remote vaults instead of using basic authentication, which can eliminate the double hop problem with authentication from a remote AutoVue server or IIS server.
  • The Meridian Enterprise client components (for example, Application Integration and client libraries) are now installed by default and mandatory when installing Meridian Explorer or BlueCielo Publisher.
  • Account names (for example, Local System) can now be typed on the Logon Information page during server installation and do not need to be selected with the browser dialog box. If the account name cannot be validated, installation can be continued.
  • The default database engine for new vaults is now Hypertrieve 5.
  • The document workflow commands are no longer available in the Meridian Web Client even if they are disabled for the active scope.
  • If auditing is enabled for a vault and the connection to the audit log database is lost, unlogged transactions are now revoked instead of being committed and users are shown an appropriate error message.
  • If auditing is enabled for a vault, the entries Rep open Start, Init Audit, and Rep open Succeeded are no longer added to the audit log by the Meridian Web Client. These entries were not useful and could cause the audit log database to expand unnecessarily.
  • Trial licenses and Not for Production licenses may now be registered together in the same license server.
  • The Copy Document command now supports batches in the Meridian Web Client.
  • The Computer running the Enterprise services option in Meridian Enterprise Administrator now accepts a User Principal Name (UPN) to prevent errors when Meridian Enterprise Server is used to manage Meridian Enterprise user accounts and the Meridian Enterprise Server is running on a separate computer.
  • Custom properties may no longer be deleted if they are included in the availability criteria of a workflow transition.
  • The IsAPWF registry setting that enabled Meridian Asset Management Module object filtering has been moved to a new setting named TagsInProject on the Application Integration page in Meridian Enterprise Configurator. This was done so that the functionality can be enabled only for specific vaults on the same server.
