Creating new drawings

If the AutoCAD P&ID project for which you want to create a new drawing does not reside in a shared workspace, you do not have to do anything special to create new drawings. Create them as you normally would. For more information about shared workspaces, see NEW Working with shared workspace folders.

Special care must be taken when creating new drawings in an AutoCAD P&ID project that resides in a Meridian Enterprise vault. Due to a technical limitation in AutoCAD P&ID, when Meridian Enterprise calculates the filename for a new drawing, the filename cannot be sent to AutoCAD P&ID like it can be sent to other applications. This applies only to vaults that have been customized to show a wizard for new documents and that calculate the name using scripting. If you are unsure about the configuration of your vault, consult a system administrator.

To create a new drawing:

  1. Create the new drawing in basic AutoCAD, not AutoCAD P&ID. If you attempt to create the drawing in AutoCAD P&ID, you will not be able to complete the new document wizard even though the drawing will be created in the vault with the calculated name.
  2. Attach the new drawing to the project in AutoCAD P&ID.
