About the email task extension sample projects

Two sample Visual Basic task extension projects are provided with Meridian Enterprise Developer Edition to demonstrate the implementation of a custom task extension for sending email notification messages from a server. The two projects are identical except:

• The AMCDONTS project uses Collaboration Data Objects for Windows NT Server (CDONTS) that is included with Microsoft Windows NT and Windows 2000 server products.
• The AMCDOSYS project uses the replacement for CDONTS named Collaboration Data Objects (CDOSYS) that is included in Windows 2000 server products and Windows Server 2003.

Similar functionality can be built using a user interface extension, but the advantage of a task extension is that it will work equally well for both Web Access and Windows-based clients.

Both projects are based on the Task Project template that is installed with the Developer edition of Meridian Enterprise when the Sample Extensions component is selected. If you do not have Visual Basic installed, you can use the compiled projects (AMEmail.dll for AMCDONTS or AMEmail2.dll for AMCDOSYS) to test the samples.

Each sample consists of three files:

• A Visual Basic project file
• A class module
• A compiled Task Server extension
