About the AMScriptTask sample project

A sample Visual Basic task extension project and accompanying VBScript event code are provided with Meridian Enterprise Developer Edition to demonstrate how a custom task can execute a script function. It is done by a task server object running a script function to set a document property. Similar functionality can be built using a user interface extension, but the advantage of a task extension is that it will work equally well for both Web Access and Windows-based clients.

The project is based on the Task Project template that is installed with the Developer edition of Meridian Enterprise when the Sample Extensions component is selected. If you do not have Visual Basic installed, you can use the compiled project (AMScriptTask.dll) to test this sample.

The sample consists of seven files:

• AMScriptTask.vbp: Visual Basic project file
• AMScriptTask.dll: Compiled Task Server extension
• AMCliApp.cls: Implementation of the IAMClientApp object
• AMScriptTask.rfc: COM interface version compatibility reference file
• AMSimpleTask.cls: Implementation of the AMSimpleTask task
• AMBatchTask.cls: Implementation of the AMBatchTask task
• ScriptTasks.met: Configuration file containing VBScript procedures that demonstrate the AMSimpleTask and AMBatchTask tasks.

This approach can also be used to run a VBscript procedure from a stand-alone Visual Basic application. For further details on how the AMScriptTask task extension works, refer to the source code provided.
