Resetting the system administrator password

The initial password for the admin account is set during Kronodoc installation. If it is lost or compromised, you can reset it.

The password is stored in a password file on the server. The file is named passwd and is located in the KRONO/projects subfolder under the Kronodoc system folder that was creating during installation. The password can be reset with the htpasswd command that resides in the support subfolder of the Kronodoc website folder.

To reset the admin account password:

  1. On the Kronodoc server, log on as the same user that installed Kronodoc.
  2.  Run the htpasswd command with the passwd file name and the admin account name as arguments, similar to the following example:
/krono/httpd/support/htpasswd/krono/Kronodoc/KRONO/projects/passwd admin

  1. Type a new admin password when prompted. The password file is updated.

Keep the password in a safe place and limit its distribution since the system administrator can access and delete all data and change any user's password.

A system administrator can use the Kronodoc user interface to change any system administrator's password as well as any other password. The user interface should always be used for creating and changing other user accounts and passwords so that the system stores the user information in the right configuration files or database tables.
