Storage and file system recommendations

Storage system configuration

Kronodoc oy recommends that the storage system used with the Kronodoc product supports some level of fault tolerance. The recommended storage system setup is an Enterprise level Storage Area Network (SAN) or SCSI hardware RAID with RAID level 1+0 (a.k.a. RAID 10) and a hot spare disk. This setup provides good performance combined with reliability. If performance is not considered as first priority issue then RAID level 1 with a hot spare disk can be used. It is recommended that both operating system and Kronodoc file systems are setup on equally reliable storage systems.

NB: storage systems should be automatically monitored for disk failures even if the storage system supports fault tolerance.

The use of the logical volume management is encouraged for easier space management.

Journaled file systems, such as ext3 or VxFS, should be used on all file system volumes.1 Unless there are operating system related restrictions.
