Saving search templates

A search template is a saved search that can be modified each time it is run. When you open a search template, search results will not be shown immediately. Instead, you are given an opportunity to specify different or additional search criteria before executing the search. The advantages of a search template are:

To save an advanced search as a search template:

  1. Begin by displaying the Advanced tab in the Document Search pane and selecting a vault and optional folder to search in, as described in Executing an advanced search.
  2. Click the Template tab. The Template tab appears, similar to the following figure.

  1. If you like, specify property value search criteria as described in Specifying property value search criteria.
  2. If you like, specify document content search criteria as described in Specifying document content search criteria.
  3. In the View column of both the Properties and Content tables, choose an option for each criterion to control its access according to the descriptions in the following table.

The user must enter a search value for this criterion when the search is executed.

Editable

The user may optionally enter a search value for this criterion when the search is executed.

Read Only

The user cannot enter a search value for this criterion when the search is executed.

Hidden

The search criterion is hidden from the user when the template is opened.

  1. To see a preview of the search template, click the TemplatePreview button . The Template tab changes appearance, similar to the following figure.

This is how the template will appear to users when they open it:

  1. Click the TemplatePreview button again to continue editing the search template.
  2. When you are satisfied with the search criteria and their access, click File on the menu bar and click Save As. The ImandrA Find:Save dialog appears.
  3. Use the ImandrA Find:Save dialog to save the search template as described in Saving searches. If you saved the search template in the vault, it will appear with a search template icon  in the selected folder.
