Understanding revision blocks

AutoCAD users insert title blocks in drawings. A title block contains drawing identification information such as the drawing’s title, current revision number, drafter name, project number, and so on. During the life cycle of the drawing, AutoCAD users create and approve one or more revisions of the drawing. The revision history of the drawing is important to the drawing owner. The revision block in a drawing is a schedule of revisions that is usually inserted near the title block or at the top of the drawing and shows this revision history, similar to the following figure. ImandrA can automatically update the revision history in drawings when the revision information changes in ImandrA.

There a three kinds of blocks that can be inserted into a drawing. Block 1 is the main title block. This block is usually a standard block that has been customized for the company. When an AutoCAD user starts the revision block, the software places the first (oldest) revision information in block 2 in the drawing. Block 2 includes the revision schedule header and information about the first revision. Each subsequent revision inserts a copy of block 3 in the drawing to extend the schedule.

You can configure the title block and revision blocks in the Revision List Designer in ImandrA Designer as described in the following topics.
