Browsing by property navigation lets you find items by dynamically building a filter based on existing values for key properties. As you select property values, the results pane list refreshes to show only the items with the selected values. This means that you will always find some items and that you can refine your search by selecting different or additional property values. This method of finding items is useful when you are not sure what the values of the properties are but you can recognize them when you see them or when you want to try different property values. The properties that are available for property navigation are configured by a system administrator. When you find the items that you are looking for, you can save the current view filter for later reuse.
To browse by properties:
On any view page, in the navigation frame, click the Property Navigation bar. A list of the properties that are available for navigation appears in the left pane.
Some properties may show a list of the existing values for that property below the property name for your selection. These properties typically have few existing values. Other properties may show a select icon below the property name. These properties typically have larger numbers of existing values and will show a list of the values when you click the icon.
To reduce the number of values shown for a property:
Note The values Empty or No Value might appear for some properties. No Value means that for some documents, the property has never been set to a value. Empty means that for some documents, the property has been set to a value but has been cleared (empty string).
If property navigation is configured to not allow selecting multiple values, when you select a value, the unselected values in the list will disappear. The value lists of the other properties will also refresh to remove the values that do not match the current results. If property navigation is configured to allow selecting multiple values, all values in the list will remain visible after you select one and you can select additional values.
If property navigation is configured to not allow selecting multiple values and a property has over 200 values, you can reduce the number of values shown for a property:
If property navigation is configured to allow selecting multiple values, child properties may appear after you select a value for a parent property.
