Creating repository views

A repository view is the fundamental presentation of the contents of a repository to users. Repository views are listed on the Welcome page of a Meridian Explorer site for users to select and begin working with documents and object tags.

A repository may have any number of views. Each view can be one of the following types:

Views are created in a related group of all of the preceding view types. That is, when you create a view of one type, Configurator creates views of the other types at the same time that work together with the view that you created. If you do not need all of the views, you can delete or clear them as described elsewhere in this guide.

Each view includes one or more layouts for repository navigation:

Each view can use some or all of these layouts. Each view group has a default navigation layout. And each view can be restricted for use by specific user groups.

Note    When multiple repositories exist on the same server, the website will list the views of all repositories.

To create a new view:

  1. In the Meridian Explorer Configurator, click Manage in the left pane. The configuration management command buttons appear in the right pane.
  2. In the General group, click New View. The New View dialog box appears.
  3. Select the repository where the view will be created from the Repository list.
  4. Select a view type in the left pane. The view type's options appear in the right pane.
  5. Select or type options using the descriptions in the following table.

Tip    The same group name can be used by multiple repositories to group all of the related views together. Conversely, to group all of the views for a specific repository together, use the same group name, preferably that includes the repository name for easier identification.

The read-only internal name of the view.

Select a filter from the list that will determine the items that are shown by this view. Required. For information about creating filters, see Creating and editing object filters.
  1. Repeat steps 4 to 5 for each of the other view types (Documents, Object Tags, or Projects). For each type, either configure the view options if the view will be available to users or clear the view so that it is not available to users.
  2. Click OK to save your changes.

After you have created a view group, you can configure the individual views as described in Configuring repository views.
